Grow Your Own, Apprenticeship

Overview

In addition to the Apprenticeship program, the Grow Your Own, Apprenticeship organizational unit also includes Minneapolis Public Schools Academy (MPS-A), which represents two of three pathways within MPS' broader Grow Your Own educator preparation program, designed to develop and retain high-quality teachers. The Apprenticeship program requires an associate degree or qualifying credits and is completed over two years, culminating in a bachelor’s degree and a Tier 3 teaching license in either Elementary Education or Special Education. This pathway is in its second year and is notably, the first of its kind for teachers in Minnesota. MPS-A requires a bachelor’s degree and is completed over 15 months, culminating in a Tier 3 teaching license in Special Education. MPS-A is the first PELSB-approved, district-embedded teacher licensure program in the state and is now in its second year.
