Overview

The Sheet Metal Shop is responsible for the full lifecycle of durable metal components and ventilation systems across all District buildings. One of their most critical functions is regulating Indoor Air Quality. By bringing fresh air in and moving stale air out, the crew helps reduce dust, pollen, and other airborne pathogens. The team maintains every system involved in air movement, including air conditioning fans, ductwork that delivers fresh air to classrooms and offices, and heating distribution systems that ensure warm air is spread evenly throughout schools during the winter months. They also perform testing and balancing to make sure each room receives the precise amount of air it needs so spaces don’t become too hot, too cold, or feel “stuffy.” Beyond air systems, the crew also fabricates and maintains the durable metal items students and staff use every day, such as lockers, shelving, and building signage.
