Electric Shop

Overview

The Electric Shop oversees and maintains the electrical systems. While much of their work happens behind walls, above ceilings, or underground, their presence is felt every time a teacher flips a switch, a student hears the bell, or a room calls for heat. Schools rely on large motors to run heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. The Electric Shop keeps these motors running to ensure fresh air and comfortable temperatures. The Five Year Plan: The Electric Shop is currently implementing a five-year Preventative Maintenance plan that will touch every site, keeping MPS in full compliance with NFPA 70B (Standard for Electrical Equipment Maintenance). One goal of this shop is reducing utility costs so projects that upgrade equipment to reduce consumption are prioritized. These Electricians do not just "fix things when they break." They are proactive, identifying potential hazards before failure occurs and ensuring that every piece of equipment meets strict safety standards.
