Carpenter Shop
Overview
The Carpenters maintain the structural integrity, safety and functionality of buildings through their projects. They preserve and repair building elements such as walls, floors, and windows. They fabricate and install doors and hardware and operate a Locksmith Shop. Inside the building, they create specialized items like cabinets, shelving, bookcases, and workstations for classrooms and offices. The Locksmith Shop replaces door hardware, locks and thresholds. They maintain 20,000 doors and locks District-wide. In addition to interior facility maintenance, they are responsible for outdoor infrastructure like fences, gates, and signposts. They inspect and maintain gym and playground equipment to prevent hazards and ensure the facilities are safe to use. This team performs regular inspections of high-wear items to safeguard the District’s facilities.
