Multilingual & Magnet Programs
Overview
Minneapolis Public Schools’ Multilingual Department builds strong language skills, fostering bilingualism and biliteracy for a global future. With students speaking over 100 languages, linguistic diversity is a key strength. English Language Development uses research-based, language-rich instruction to support academic growth, while Spanish Dual Language, Hmong Dual Language, and Somali Heritage Language programs develop full bilingualism. The Minnesota Bilingual Seals program recognizes multilingual proficiency and can earn college credits. MPS magnet schools offer innovative, theme-based learning across elementary, middle, and high schools, including Arts, Global Studies and Humanities, Montessori, Spanish Dual Language, STEM, and STEAM. These programs integrate core academics with specialized themes and real-world learning through community partnerships, preparing students for an interconnected world.
